Services

Everybody In! Nobody Out!

It is no surprise that the United States has one of the most expensive healthcare systems in the world. In spite of those costs, we continue to have some of the worst outcomes. Our own Jerry Reed, and Lauri Hoagland, a Family Nurse Practitioner in Jackson County, will give us an update on the efforts of Healthcare for All Oregon to bring publicly funded healthcare to Oregon.

This I Believe

Join our beloved member, Emilie, as she shares her journey on how she found Unitarian Universalism. Emilie’s delightful story can’t be missed.

The Stories of Our Lives

This service invites us to reflect on our relationship with the stories of our lives: the old stories, the well-worn stories that we’ve told–and been told–for so long. What might be at stake if we’re willing to re-examine them? How might such a process help us to widen our welcome as Unitarian Universalists?

Courageous Conversations

What happens when we initiate courageous conversations with our neighbors? Sally Snyder, chair of the Diversity Programming Board at Rogue Community College, will give us a behind-the-scenes look at “Courageous Conversations”, a series of community conversations since July 2020 that focuses on the history of racism in Oregon, white privilege, institutional racism, and other important and related topics.

Celebrating “Together Again”

After many months of “virtual” church, our beloved community is meeting in person! This morning we explore what it means to be in community. Come celebrate with us, in person or on Zoom for this lay lead service.

Looking for Otto Yamaoka

We are invited into the world of 1930’s Hollywood this morning with our guest, Reverend Philip Zwerling.  While researching Dashiell Hammett’s novel The Thin Man and the six MGM movies, Rev. Zwerling discovered American bit actor Otto Yamaoka and his sister and acting colleague, Iris.  In 1942 Otto and Iris were imprisoned by the U.S. government.  Where did they go? Did Hollywood notice?  What is their legacy today?

Poetry is the Door I Keep Opening

Join our beloved members Gary Lark and service host, Camille Korsmo for a morning of poetry. Born and raised in Douglas County, Gary claims the Umpqua River as his mentor.

Beyond Boxes

We are all guilty of assigning characters to others or seeing only one part of a person’s identity. Guest Amanda Schuber returns to our pulpit to explore how we can uncover and challenge those hidden biases. As a faith community we owe it to ourselves and our communities to look beyond the boxes.

How Do You Reconcile a Lynching?

How is lynching still a relevant topic for us today and how can we find reconciliation? Our pulpit guest Taylor Stewart started the Oregon Remembrance Project in 2018 to inspire racial justice action. He will share about the legacy of lynching, and how we can get involved in finding justice for Alonzo Tucker, Oregon’s only known victim of lynching.

Celebrating Us

Many activities and commitments go into sustaining a religious community. Today we uplift our achievements and celebrate our team and committee members of this past year. And we’ll approve the 2022 church budget at our January Congregational Meeting following the service.
