Finding Hope

Hope that something positive will happen, is an essential human emotion and an important part of a religious life. But there are also false hopes and misplaced hopes. Is hope always a good thing? We’ll consider how to maintain and draw upon hope when we need it the most. Our pulpit guest and pending minister is on staff at the UU Church of Eugene and almost a minister herself.

Green Sky at Morning

A real life allegory about human elves living and building in a forest can help us broaden our thinking about environmental responsibility and how we each choose to live responsibly on this, our amazing world.

Come Sunday

Come Sunday, oh come Sunday, that’s the day” (Duke Ellington) Why do we gather on Sunday mornings? What needs are being met – or could be? The day following a workshop on this subject, Stephen will share what he heard from participants and what he’s learned from a dozen years of UU parish ministry.

Heart-Centered Stress Resilience

The human heart is a powerful energetic field. Our guest’s 40 years as a cardiac nurse confirm what scientific research has demonstrated – that love, compassion, kindness and cooperation can transform stress and enhance overall health and well-being. A vital message for us all.

Communion of Waters

Water is one of the earliest holy elements. It awakens life. Old, yet still with us, refreshing us all anew. If you’d like to bring some water from your summer, or morning, or our sink, we’ll mix these in a Water Communion, which water we’ll later decide where to place. This isn’t a travelogue of our summers; it’s bringing forth the worth of many waters into one. Welcome all!

If I Were God Would I Have Made the World This Way?

Albert Einstein would test a new theory by asking himself this question. It’s an engaging exercise in personal theology if you spin it out a while–as Marge will do, in a message with a traumatic history for such times as now.

How I Learned About my White Fragility

As we at the UUA work to dismantle the culture of white supremacy that is all around us, many of us have had to face our own White Fragility. How has a belief that racism is something “those bad people” do kept many of us from seeing real problems that we need to address? Rev. Sarah Schurr is our primary contact from the Pacific Western Region of the UUA. In this sermon she will share some of her learning journey on this important topic.
