Gladly Alone Together

Challenging times, eh? Global Warming, Covid, Racism, Bullies, Chaos, Threats – Lions and Tigers and Bears – oh, my!  We're cast back into ourselves, there to cope or maybe gladly thrive. How to do the latter? Tune in to Zoom together. I’ll try to help. You can too.

An Amazing Time in America

Marge Piercy’s poem, To Be of Use, ends with the line, “The pitcher cries for water to carry and a person for work that is real.” I am hope-filled by the seismic wave of work being done to create a more just world. Fourth of July, 2020, in the midst of pandemic, farcical leadership, streets filled with people, Siberia melting, species extinction and unidentified flying objects, come, let me tell you why I think it is a great time to be alive. This I believe.

Transition and Transformation

A brief service and a ceremony welcoming new members precedes our mid-year Congregational Meeting and Board election. Watch your inbox for an email with the details.

Building Our Belief in Ourselves!

Belief in ourselves as powerful, competent, and valuable is the most powerful interpersonal safety tool we have. Together, we will learn how to take charge of our emotional and physical well being. These life-changing skills can help us and people important to us grow and protect these essential beliefs. Irene van der Zande is the executive director and founder of Kidpower International, a global nonprofit providing proven skills for interpersonal safety, child protection, conflict resolution, advocacy, and self-defense for millions of people of all ages, abilities, and walks of life worldwide since 1989. https://www.kidpower.org/

Inner Sanctuary & the Art of Remembering Wholeness

How might being in tune with the wholeness of our creative capacity support us during uncertainty? How does deep listening increase our ability to be kind and compassionate while staying open to new possibilities? The creator of Soul Listening Art, a meditative practice of free creative expression, invites us to the Inner Sanctuary

Putting Down the Stone

This service gives us an opportunity to practice compassion, with two guided meditations, inspired by Buddhist and Christian teachings. For one of them, you are invited to hold onto a hand-sized stone…so please gather one prior to the service. A blunt, heavy, hand-sized replacement is fine. Rev. Stephen draws his accompanying message from his experiences in a Vipassana (Insight) Buddhist meditation retreat, hospice spiritual care, Christian scripture, and his childhood. A frequent preacher with us, he is completing his eighth year as a hospice chaplain and has served as a full-time UU parish minister for eleven years.

Showing Up for Ourselves and Our Loved Ones in These Trying Times

Alongside a viral pandemic, our world is facing an unprecedented challenge to our mental health. Now more than ever, we need to be present for ourselves and one another: supporting, validating, connecting. Join us for a discussion about showing up for the people around us and asking for what we need to feel supported by the people around us. Becky is the Director of Engagement and Training for Active Minds, supporting mental health awareness, outreach and education for students and young adults, nationwide.

Getting Even

Our history, art, literature and lore abound with tales of vengeance. Some folk music and folk tales seem to describe feuds as a way of life, but some ancient writings warn against acts of vengeance or even thinking vengeful thoughts and harboring vengeful feelings. Let’s “get even.”

Angels In America

We all have heard about angels, those supernatural benevolent beings who serve as intermediaries between the divine and humanity. Sometimes they are doing good works, other times they herald good news or are simply present to watch over us. In recent weeks angelic individuals have served us and eased our passage through the shadow of the pandemic. They come in various form, delivery people, store clerks and health care professionals. This morning let’s explore the concept of angels and how nurses might be a real life manifestation of such beings.

Cultivating Resilience, Courage and Compassion

Orienting around our Universal selves, we will explore ways to reawaken our motivation, inspiration and confidence. There will be some movement that can be done sitting or standing. The founder of Leadership Embodiment and a 6th degree Black Belt in Aikido, Wendy teaches worldwide.
